Jobs

Company: Photon Design, Oxford, UK

Location: Oxford

Job Title: Technical Sales: photonics design software

We require a dynamic outgoing person to present our software to prospective customers. You will need to gain a deep technical knowledge of our products and the techniques we use. The selling process will require you to identify and understand in detail the technical requirements of the potential customer, determine whether and how the requirements can be met by our tools and then present a coherent case for our tools to the customer. (Needless to say, we believe our products are vastly superior to our competition in many aspects so this will be easy provided you understand them well!). You will need either previous sales experience or proven interpersonal skills plus a strong desire to move into the more people-focussed role of technical selling.

Responsibilities

  • Presenting our tools to potential customers, using telephone, email, audio-visual Internet meetings

  • Devising solutions to customer design problems.

  • Providing feed back to our developers - customer comments, suggestions.

  • Identifying opportunities for future applications or products.

  • Occasional travel to customers’ sites.

  • Participation at company exhibitions.

Requirements

  • An excellent degree in Physics or Electronic Engineering.

  • Proven interpersonal skills, ideally in a sales environment.

  • Excellent spoken and written English.

  • EU nationality.

  • Good presentation and manner.

In addition one or more of the following qualifications will help you:

  • Specific knowledge in one or more areas of electromagnetism, semiconductor device physics, or in more direct photonics areas.

  • Technical sales experience.

  • A relevant PhD would be useful.

Other

As a small company, many of us have a primary role and then one or two other roles as time allows. It is expected that you would also be involved on one or more of these secondary roles.

  • Customer Training Courses – setting up and running training days for our customers.

  • Marketing – assisting in the marketing of our products, managing exhibitions and identifying new potential customers.

  • Office management – ensuring the smooth running of the office and identifying ways in which internal communications and workflow can be improved.

  • IT management – maintaining the smooth running of our computers and network.

Salary

Expected £30-£50K plus good bonus depending on experience.
