The underlying numerical engine is robust enough to deal with these highly refractive structures presenting strong internal reflections. These examples are notoriously difficult even in the simpler 2d- geometries. Up to now the only commercially available solvers capable of dealing with such structures were all based on Time Domain techniques - powerful but computationally intensive.
