IntroductionWhat is CLADISS-2D?
CLADISS-2D has been developed from the CLADISS model from the University of Gent. It is a comprehensive laser diode / TWA model that takes a complete 3D description of the device structure as a starting point. A device is composed of one or more sections and the cross-section of each section can be defined in a very flexible way, so that it might be a buried hetero-structure, an active ridge waveguide or even a glass fibre. The model will simulate the DC, time-domain and frequency domain characteristics of the device, including noise effects. The model may be used to design a wide variety of devices from simple Fabry-Perot lasers to complex multi-contact multi-section frequency-tuneable DFB lasers. It takes into account many physical processes, including lateral carrier diffusion, spectral hole burning, spatial hole burning in the lateral and longitudinal direction, non-linear gain and intervalence band absorption.
Please note that CLADISS-2D has been largely superseded by PICWave and is no longer being developed. The one unique feature of CLADISS-2D is its small-signal model for AM, FM and noise analysis. Please contact us for advice.
